"The beautiful part of writing is that you don't have to get it right the first time, unlike, say, a brain surgeon." ~Robert Cromier

Becoming A Group Member

Becoming a member of the Inklets is easy, free and lots of fun. If you are looking for inspiration, interaction, feedback, challenge, motivation and to learn then we are the group for you.

The Inklets Writing Group is based in Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK. We currently have members from all over the UK and the world so if you're a little out of range to attend meetings keep scrolling down and find the section for becoming an Online Member.

To become a member simply email or ring us with your membership request. You will then be invited out for lunch, a pint, coffee or whatever you prefer so that we can get to know you. Your welcome group will usually consist of around three or four members of the committee (you can find us here) and we encourage you to bring along a friend as we understand that it can be daunting and not very sensible to meet new people on your own. Following this casual get-together you will then be invited to start attending meetings and taking part in Inklets events!

After you have been attending meetings for a while you may feel like you wish to become further involved and start hosting your own meetings. All you need to do is check out this page, read the guidelines and follow the instructions.

You may think that you've now read all you need to know but if you direct your cursor to the side bar and scroll the bottom of the page you'll find a list of handy links which you should familiarise yourself with.

Becoming An Online Member

Becoming an online member is even easier than becoming an attending group member!

Being an online member works like this:

1. You send us an email introducing yourself and requesting membership (if we dont already know you) and we will confirm this. It is also useful if you provide us with a postal address and telephone number.

2. Sign up to the newsletter on the main page of the website.

3. Sign up to the forum and introduce yourself.

You are now ready to start chatting, submitting work (either your own original work or challenge work) and generating feedback for your fellow writers and taking part in competitions.

Don't forget that online members are always welcome to attend a meeting if they are in the area or to attend special events. They may even find themselves eligible to attend writing holidays and trips with the group.

Essential Links

The Forum Whether you're an attending or online member you really do need to be signing up to the forum if you're serious about being part of the group. Since we only meet every ten days and tend to have longer breaks over holidays such as Easter and Christmas a lot of discussion and feedback goes on here. The board will look small when you first follow the link but once you've signed up you will unlock a selection of member-only message boards as well. Don't get left out of the loop, join the forum!

Submitting Your Work We are very proud of our members and their work and therefore we produce anthologies and display members' work. If you intend to take part in our challenges, competitions and/or would like to see your own original work displayed in our gallery or anthology you'll probably find yourself using this page.

The Gallery Once you've submitted your work you'll be able to find it here.

Challenges As an aid to inspiration and motivation we set a new writing challenge at every meeting. This can also be done entirely online as each challenge is posted here followed by the results. Don't worry if you miss the deadline, we will accept entries for any challenge at any time. The challenge archive is also excellent for curing boredom and writer's block as you can dip into any of the challenges at any time...

Tutorials, Hints, Tips & Exercises Often along with our challenges we may post a tutorial to go along with it which you will find here. There are several excellent none-challenge-related tutorials here as well and it's well worth a look, you'll definately learn something new!

Meeting Minutes If you've missed a meeting or you're an online member and want to stay up to date with what has been discussed during our moots then you can find a complete archive of minutes for every meeting here. You can also view the minutes of the committee meetings which regular members are generally invited to attend.

Advance Meeting Dates The Advance Meeting Dates page is the place where you can plan your diary. It contains a list of all the meeting dates that we have planning in advance plus the dates of all the upcoming events that are in the system.

Code of Conduct Finally comes the Inklets Code of Conduct. Reading through the code is a requirement that we expect all new members to fulfill. You will also find a set of guidelines on the forum which are handy to know.
